Visible, but not aggressive
Your call to action should be visible almost all the time, but it must not get in the way of visitors looking for information on your website. Some websites block navigation to force visitors to act on a call to action. This tactic is strongly discouraged because it’s too aggressive. The risk of losing your audience is high, as visitors would rather switch to another website than have a choice forced on them.
Simple and effective
A call to action should lead to an extremely simple purchase, contact or sign-up process. Ask for as few clicks and as little information as possible to increase your conversion rate. A form that’s too long will discourage visitors and make them turn back. When it comes to purchases, do some research online: some available modules let people buy in 3 clicks or less!
Use the imperative
The text should reflect what you have to offer and show its added value. We also recommend phrasing calls to action in the imperative.
For example:
Sign up for our newsletter to receive practical sports health tips.
Book an appointment with one of our animal health specialists.
Vary your offers
Vary your offers and your calls to action. Just because visitors don’t want to contact you doesn’t mean they don’t want to follow your blog or sign up for your newsletter. Since you don’t know where visitors are in their buying process, give them a chance to stay in close contact with your business so you can keep moving them forward in that process.
Vary your calls to action
Use different types of calls to action and track their effectiveness with Google Analytics. The results will show you which of your calls to action works best for your target audience.
